The Old Lyme Historical Society, Inc. is pleased to announce the 2023 recipient of the Carol Noyes Winters Scholarship which is awarded to an outstanding Lyme-Old Lyme student intending to study history in college. The award this year was presented to Theodore Silvanos (Van) Lampos. He is the son of Michaelle Pearson and James Lampos.
Throughout his early years and school career Van has developed and demonstrated his empathy for others and his deep concern for human rights issues. He will attend the American University in Washington, DC where he hopes his studies will lead him to a future career in political science, government, and diplomacy.
Congratulations Van!
In honor of Carol Noyes Winters, the Society's dear friend, former Treasurer, and founder of the Scholarship Fund, a scholarship is offered to an Old Lyme High School Senior planning to major in history in college. Students living in Old Lyme, including those who attend school elsewhere, may apply.

OPPORTUNITIES
The Old Lyme Historical Society is an all-volunteer organization, and we are always looking to include new members and friends.
Do you have a background in history, research or library science? Perhaps you’d like to help out in the archive. Do you enjoy gardening? You’d be most welcome on the grounds crew. Are you interested in publishing or marketing? Try writing for our newsletter and publicity team. Do you have a background in banking, finance or fundraising? Could you help us apply for grants? Or perhaps you just have an hour or two and would like to help out and make some new friends.
Whatever your interests, there are so many ways you can make a difference!

COMMITTEE LIST
Archives:
Reviews and accessions archives materials; fields information requests from the public.
Marketing:
Seeks to expand the presence of OLHSI in the community through branding and marketing opportunities. Produces materials such as tea towels, tote bags, walking tour, signage, notecards, etc.
Exhibits:
Creates and curates exhibits at 55 Lyme and at various display cases in town (post office, library, town hall, etc.). Decorates 55 Lyme for Holiday Seasons.
Events:
Makes recommendations re OLHSI events, related to local history, member interest and strategic plan. Coordinates volunteers and refreshments for events.
Facilities and Grounds:
Care and maintenance of the building, grounds and plantings.
Finance:
Prepares and maintains budget; provides oversight for appropriations and financial goals.
Fundraising:
Plans and manages fundraising events and activities, including recurring fundraising events. Meets when needed, usually at Webster Bank on a Saturday morning.
Membership:
Maintains the membership list and mails out membership materials. Meets quarterly to mail out the newsletter.
Nominating:
Maintains the list of board members and term limits; seeks out and interviews potential new trustees. Provides new trustees with list of committees.
Oral History Project:
This committee will make a list of local residents and interview them on video regarding their life events. Committee members will learn how to conduct an effective oral history session. Additional volunteers will be needed to transcribe the interviews for the archive.
Publications:
Produces OLHSI publications, e.g., newsletter, calendar, books and pamphlets.
Calendar Subcommittee:
Produces “Then & Now” calendar and sources sponsors to underwrite it each year. Photo and
historic research of each topic. Also aids with marketing and promoting the calendar.
Newsletter & Publicity:
Produces the “River and Sound” Newsletter quarterly. Places notices and articles in local press,
magazines, and on social media advising the public of events and happenings at the Old Lyme
Historical Society.
Scholarship & School/ Youth Outreach:
Seeks and implements ways for OLHSI to engage with local schools, youth and families. Reviews applications for Carol Noyes Winters scholarship each year, and selects recipient(s).
